When you move to a new city to start University you will
most probably be placed in student accommodation where you don’t know anyone.
Hopefully, your new housemates will be nice people who you get on with and
become friends for life but there are times when unfortunately you may be
housed with annoying housemates.
Here’s the first part of my blog about “Annoying Housemate Traits”.
Annoying Housemate #1 – The Messy Person
The messy housemate can be very annoying. Whether its
leaving dirty plates in the kitchen, their socks in the shared living room or
never cleaning up, living with this type of student can lead to many house arguments.
The messy housemate could be that way for many reasons, one of which could be
that their mum used to clean up after them all the time when they lived at
home. Don’t fall into the trap of doing this in your student accommodation
though. The best way to stop a messy housemate is to first of all talk to them
and try and get them to change. Implement a cleaning rota so that everyone does
the same amount of cleaning and the problem is gone. Another solution for if
this isn’t successful though is to take their dirty plates and anything else
they leave around the house and put it in their bed. They will learn quickly
enough not to be messy anymore.
Each of your housemates will most likely have different
levels of what is deemed as messy so it is important to talk to them so that
your University student accommodation us great fun.
