University Sports: Number One – Ultimate Frisbee

If you live in student accommodation Coventry and attend either of the two universities in the city then there are plenty of different sports or activities to take part in during your time at University. In a new series of posts we will take a look at different clubs and societies that are offered by the two universities.

Number One – Ultimate Frisbee

Both the Universities have an Ultimate Frisbee team but chances are that you won’t have likely heard of the sport. The best way to describe it as a cross between the rules of netball and American football but played with a Frisbee (disc) on a football sized pitch. When holding the disc players can only pivot and have a stall count before they have to throw the disc to a team member. If the player is stalled out, the disc touches the floor or is intercepted by a player on the other team then it’s a turnover. To score, the disc has to be caught in your end zone at the end of the pitch. Have a look at this video if you want to see the game in action.

The University of Warwick team, called the Warwick Bears seem to have had the most success and also have a longer history having been around since 1976.

If you are looking to get out and about from your student accommodation Coventry then why not try giving Ultimate Frisbee a go?
