Even Parents Need to Know About Student Accommodation

If your child is moving out for the first time and heading off to university, chances are, as parents you are just as worried and excited as your child (or soon to be student). We thought we'd write this post to just try and give parents a few suggestions to make the move easy on you both.

Make sure the accommodation is suitable and in a safe area. If your child is studying at Coventry University, you've probably looked at houses to rent Coventry and made up a short-list of potential homes to visit. There are several properties and letting agencies that are owned by universities so be sure to check these out if you have not done so already.

Check your student knows the bus routes and ways to get home if they miss the late bus. Alot of student accommodation is close to the university campus but it is still worth checking the public transport out.

Read through tenancy and letting agreements together so you know exactly what is expected of both student and landlord/letting agency.

Expect the phonecalls on washing clothes and how to cook if your student has never ventured into the kitchen long enough to cook a meal or load the washing machine.

Finally, once you've got used to the peace and quiet and lack of dirty washing and socks lying around try and resist the temptation to turn their room into an ensuite or study - they will be back for Christmas or sooner for the odd weekend even if their student accommodation Coventry is great - they will still love your home cooked food even more.
